What are Dental Veneers?

Dental veneers are made up of thin layer of restorative tooth-colored material which are used to improve the appearance of a tooth or to protect the tooth surface which is damaged. Porcelain veneers are ceramic and expensive because it is having light reflecting properties of natural teeth. The main advantage of porcelain veneers is it resists the stains better than the composite veneers and are designed to cover the front surface of teeth to improve the appearance. These veneers are bonded over the front surface of the teeth. These veneers are also used to change the color, shape, size or length of your teeth by the dentist to match the natural teeth.

A composite veneer or resin veneers are thinner and less expensive than the porcelain veneers. Before placing in a mouth, the little amount of surface of the tooth requires removal. It may be directly or indirectly placed in a mouth by a dental technician in a dental laboratory, and later bonded to the tooth with the help of resin cement.

Porcelain veneers last up to 12 to 15 years whereas resin veneers last up to 7 years. But consult the dentist in choosing the dental veneers because he can tell you which type of veneers are most suitable to you.
