Peugeot Citroen Plans Re Enter With a Sedan in to India

Peugeot Citroen is a French company and second largest European car maker. After ten years, it is planning to re enter the Indian market with a mid sized sedan. The company announced its intention to enter the Indian market with both commercial and industrial operations. The company aimed to sell 50 per cent of its total vehicles outside Europe by 2015.

In 2008, PSA Peugeot Citroen had appointed Nellore as Vice-President in charge of the projects for India and now he is the managing director, leading the activities of the company in India. In the past, the Peugeot had joint venture with the erstwhile Premier family and the venture was a failure, it pulled out itself from the venture in 2001. In 2009, the company was looking for locating the plant in Tamil Nadu and Andhra Pradesh and met the government officials in both states for setting up the manufacturing plant.

The company conducted a feasibility study and it is holding ongoing discussions with the Automotive Research Association of India to understand the rules, regulations and homo logation needs for introducing products like 307 hatchback and C5 sedan in India.
